Weight Classes Missing

A forum for any topics that do not belong in the designated categories below.
Forum rules
1. Only leave links to other websites that clearly add to the conversation. Any blatant promotion of another site will be removed and the poster will be warned and possibly banned. While it's fine to have a very relevant link (fitness, diets and health as it relates to those topics) in your signature, don't try and increase the visibility of your signature by posting short answers to questions such as 'LOL'.

2. A forum is a place where you can interact with people from all over the world. This will lead to the exchange of ideas that you may not completely agree with. It is OK to debate others and defend your point of view, however there is a fine line between doing it in a respectful way and making people feel unwelcome. Always stand up for what you believe in, but do it in a way that won't lead to unfriendly and bitter rivalries. We should all be friends here, so please argue accordingly.

3. Listen to the moderators. They are here to help answer questions and make conversations run more smoothly. You can find them by clicking the members button at the top. All moderators have green text for their names. Don't hesitate to message them with any questions or concerns.

4. Avoid using 'bad' words. This is a board for all age groups and we all know that some words or phrases aren't appropriate for everyone. If you have a really good argument, 'bad' words aren't necessary to get the point across.

Weight Classes Missing

It seems to me that there are a couple of weight classes missing. I don't understand why there aren't any weight classes between 215 lbs. and 285 lbs. In high school (today) a lot of kids are between 225- 250 lb. range, why isn't there a weight class for these students? Using the 10% weight loss rule a wrestler that weighs 240 lbs. can lose down to 216 lbs., this still doesn't drop them to the 215 lb. class, so the only choice he has (essentially) is to try and gain weight or give up as much as 69 lbs. to compete. Wouldn't it only make sense to create a 225 lb. and 245 lb. class so that these kids could compete against wrestlers that were closer to their actual weight?

Well the beauty of wrestling at the high school level is each state can dictate their own set of rules (to a degree). Texas and New York both have 15 weight classes instead of the standard 14. New York opts for the ultra light 98 lb weight class, while Texas has a 180 pound weight class. Gives more options in a few weights if you are athletic at 180. However in club level of college they have a 235 weight class, but you best be cutting from 280, because those guys aren't potatoes.
