I had hoped that some healthy discussions would happen on this board. I don't miund a little trash talk, but this is starting to get out of hand. We don't need to belittle each other.
First, as to Drew Coble, He won the championship. With 17 seconds left and down, 3-1, Drew did the only thing he could do. He rushed across the mat for a take down. When he started Cappy was 20 feet from him. Every wrestler on here knows that all he had to do was wait till drew got there and sprawl or side step. Cappy did neither. Cappy changed levels and led with his head. The head on head contact was gruesome and because Drew was moving and Cappy wasn't, Cappy took the brunt of the force. If the sequense had been illegal and Cappy had injury forfeited out, Cappy would have won. There was no foul so he lost. I was on the edge of the mat and saw everything. Drew was legitimately upset at how he won, but he had beaten Cappy 2 times in a row and this match was close. I personally believe that he has nothing to feel bad about, everybody that gets on a wrestling mat takes a chance on injury.
Secondly, I have been very impressed with Dexter's advancement in wrestling. I told Pat on Saturday that I could see him eventually wrestling division 1. I am concerned, however with his inability to deal with a loss. I am not always happy with Codys attitude and work ethic ( sorry Cody). However Cody did not cheat. If you want to wrestle on the collegiate level, you will have to contend with this style of wrestling. If you are up by 4 points in the 3rd period, it is not on you to force the action. The onus is on the other wrestler. The rules simply state that you do not have to jeopardize yourself to stay active as long as you are not fleeing, you should not be penalized. The truth is that he had all of the same opportunities in that match as Cody. In the first two periods,Cody shot more than Dexter. Once you get to the collegiate level, you will also find that they award points for riding time, so it pays to keep your opponent on his belly. When Dexter and Pat came to the coaches clinic in Rogers, Pat even said, while using Dexter as his practice partner, that you should try to keep a person down and let them keep working up to their base. His words were that you can do a minimum of work and let tyhe other guy work hard while not looking like you are stalling.
The tournament is over. Catholic will have a strong team next year. There is no need to hate Bentonville, they will come back to earth. Rogers Heritage looks like the team to beat next year anyway, and i have no love lost on that team, so don't think I am a homer for them. My son caught Mono and was not well enough to compete this year and lost his wrestle off. So I was at state, not for Bentonville, but for the AWA. Catholic will be up there. Don't hate, you have something NWA kids are jealous of, Pat Smith.
Win with Humility, Lose with grace. Or else its not worth your time. Dont That goes for all participants on this board.Dont Sully your accomplishments with accusations.I will say that I am impressed with how Drew Coble has responded to others. He didn't name call or get defensive, he just stated his case and apologized for an act that he is not responsible for. Good Job Drew.
Thanks,
Don
